Duchy przodków (Spirits of Ancestors)

The culmination of Giorgio Fazer’s tetralogy devoted to Polish identity. The album will be released on May 30, 2026. It will be available in both digital and physical formats (a limited edition of 50 CDr copies).

The material on the record consists of 6 brand-new compositions oscillating between indie rock, ambient, and psychedelia.

A physical edition of the sampler, released in a limited run of 100 CDr copies, will be available during the S.E.A. festival on June 26–27, 2026, at Browar Mieszczański, at the Ubocze Rec. stand.

The Electronic Avant-Garde Stage (S.E.A.) is a recurring interdisciplinary artistic event that has been an integral part of the Podwodny Wrocław festival program since 2022. Located in the raw, post-industrial space of the former changing room at Leżakownia in Browar Mieszczański, the event serves as a platform for creative expression and experimentation for sound artists, performers, and electronic music producers.

S.E.A. focuses on exploring contemporary forms of sound — from ambient and drone music, through the rhythmic structures of techno, to conceptual forms of noise and audiovisual composition. S.E.A. promotes artistic independence, freedom of expression, and dialogue between diverse aesthetic idioms. In particular, the event brings together local communities with artists whose activities often extend beyond regional boundaries. Many of the invited creators work at the intersection of music, sound art, performance, and visual practices, approaching a post-media model of artistic production characteristic of the latest contemporary art practices.

Imagine the story of two brothers, separated by a significant age difference but united by a deep, brotherly bond. When the older brother began serving in the US Army, the younger was fighting his own battle, discovering himself and his sexual orientation. When he received news of his brother’s death, along with his military dog tag, he began wearing it as an amulet. He always carried it with him. One night at a club, he enjoyed the music the DJ was playing so much that he fell in love with him instantly. He wanted to give him something in return for this beautiful experience, so while he was away from the mixer, he placed the dog tag on it. That’s what these few tracks tell the story.

I got up, even though I hadn’t slept before, and, passing a row of small plane trees, I stepped behind a thick red curtain. Ereht degnahc gnihtyreve.

Consciousness floated on the surface, consciousness was just a puddle instead of an ocean. I tried to move to the next room, and I’m not sure if I succeeded, because each one looked the same, and I’m not sure if I moved at all. Everything seemed to be just a tangle of dreams, or maybe it was just a body (was it even a body?) moving through space, but there was nothing else in it. A fire burned, but there was no flame to be seen, no warmth to be felt.

There [in ‘It Sounds Like Life’ – off-air note] one searched for good – but that goodness sounds more like life. Here is the other side. Without Virgil / Clancy. The one that manifests less frequently, which doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. The one that isn’t evil simply by defining it that way – more by its absence and specific choices. These aren’t some vulgar black balls of evil you throw away and find peace.

It’s unknown, yet just beyond the curtain. It’s terrifying, yet alluring and interesting. Between madness and arcane knowledge. A forest with a ‘krk’ that’s scary to enter. A hand in the ‘box’. And if you do, it’s better to go it alone. There’s beauty there, but also chaos. Whirlpools and mounds that can tear your consciousness to shreds.

“It sounds like life” is an ambient album you listen to the way you listen to a landscape.

The tracks feel like footnotes to inner lives: brief, reflective, open-ended. Soft synths and slow-moving drones breathe beneath field recordings of Georgian birds, their calls flickering in and out like passing thoughts. These natural moments ground the album, giving it a sense of place even as it remains deliberately unanchored.

Fragments from ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Northern Exposure’ surface like half-remembered conversations overheard late at night—never intrusive, never explanatory. They carry a familiar warmth and strangeness, evoking small towns, liminal spaces, and the gentle absurdity of everyday existence. Rather than nostalgia for its own sake, these samples function as emotional shorthand: reminders of wonder, unease, and connection.

Unhurried and deeply atmospheric, ‘It sounds like life’ isn’t meant to be followed so much as inhabited. It plays like weather, like thought, like life itself – unfolding quietly, meaningfully, and just out of reach.

This description itself was written by an AI, a quiet reflection on the album’s central question: what is real when memory, media, nature, and machine perception overlap? Just as the music blurs birdsong with television echoes and poetry with atmosphere, reality seen with your own eyes with worlds created in your mind while watching these artificial worlds, samples combined with parts played on real instruments, the text mirrors a reality where authorship, meaning, and feeling are increasingly shared between humans and systems they’ve created.

“Pęknięcia” is an album that peers beneath the surface of everyday peace—where home ceases to be a refuge and the neighborhood begins to breathe something alien and menacing. The stories hidden within these songs tell of crimes committed right next door, of people we’ve always considered pleasant and unassuming, and of a silence that’s never truly empty. The music builds tension from tiny cracks: hums reminiscent of walls moving, dull pulses like footsteps behind a door, uncertain sounds coming from behind the wall that are difficult to pinpoint. Ambient patches, fading motifs, and edgy textures create a claustrophobic space where every crack and echo could be a harbinger of something bad. “Pęknięcia” is an album about fear that arises not in darkness, but in a familiar room.

Junkyard Shaman, also known as Jere Kilpinen, is a musician born in Finland and currently living in Asia. He has already released over 270 albums (published on Bandcamp) as well as numerous side projects. He has strong ties to the Japanese butō dance technique and creates soundtracks for butō performances in Japan and Taiwan. In the future, he hopes to bring some of his projects to Europe as well.

ディオゲネスの骨も草しげりけり (The Bones of Diogenes Were Also Overgrown by Weeds) is an album in the style of industrial gagaku—a modern take on classical Japanese court music characterized by its slow tempo and rich timbre, originating around the 10th century. It is performed on the Japanese shakuhachi flute, self-made metal percussion instruments, and electric guitar, and recorded on cassette.

Limited CDr and MC editions are in preparation.

The special cassette edition from Ubocze Rec. will also include a second version of the piece, without the tape manipulation used on the guitar recording.

An audio account of a short stay in Sardinia. Track two uses an original recording of shepherds singing in the town of Orgonsolo. The remaining tracks feature samples recorded during a tour of the island, and track one also features a clip from an old British television program about Sardinia.

The cover depicts a reproduction of a classical bronze figurine from the Nuragic or pre-Nuragic era, approximately 4,000 years ago. It is the silhouette of a woman, likely a priestess or fertility goddess.

The album was also released as a musical supplement to the zine “Human Atrocity” no. 1/2025 published by the Extreme Noise Tape label
(extremenoisetape.bandcamp.com/album/human-atrocity-nr-1-2025).

Baboki are fairy-tale or fictional creatures used to scare children, e.g. “Don’t go there, or the babok will catch you!”. Similar to the word “straszak” or “czarna wolga” in urban legends. In traditional tales (especially Silesian, but also Lesser Poland or Subcarpathia), baboks lurked in dark corners, under the bed, in the basement or behind the barn.

The Kalpa – in Korean ‘겁 geop’

One kalpa (劫) is said to be the time it takes for a drop of water to make a hole in a large rock once every 1,000 years or for a rock to be worn away by the hem of a fairy’s skirt that come down to earth once every 100 years.

The original expression ‘겁’ is a phonetic transcription of the Sanskrit word kalpa – so in Buddhism, eternity means that this kalpa continues again and again, refering to an incalculable amount of time.

Stage of the Electronic Avant-Garde (S.E.A.)

Stage of the Electronic Avant-Garde (S.E.A.) is a cyclical artistic event of an interdisciplinary nature, since 2022 an integral part of the program of the Podwodny Wrocław festival. The event, located in the raw, post-industrial space of the former cloakroom of the Mieszczański Brewery, is a platform for creative expression and experimentation for sound artists, performers and producers of electronic music. S.E.A. focuses on the exploration of contemporary forms of sound – from ambient and drones, through techno rhythmic structures, to conceptual forms of noise and audiovisual compositions.

S.E.A. promotes artistic independence, freedom of expression and dialogue between diverse aesthetic idioms. In a special way, the event integrates local environments with artists with a wider, often transregional scope of activity. Many of the invited artists operate at the intersection of music, sound art, performance and visual activities, approaching the post-media model of creativity characteristic of the latest artistic practices.

This year’s edition will feature:
Burzany — a solo project by Ilona Dobiszewska, a hybrid of analog synthesis, electronics, field recordings, bass guitar and human voice, oscillating around narrative microstructures and somatic expression;

Cats Of Dust / Grove Anemone — a duo of Kuba and Kuba, known for their individual work in the field of ambient and drone, who at S.E.A. will present a joint sonoristic journey inspired by the topography and urban mythology of underground Wrocław;

Club Alpino — a Wrocław producer exploring the organic spectrum of electronic music, inspired by the natural landscape and folk message; at the festival, he will present premiere, previously unpublished material;

ImproIn2ition (Cezary and Wojciech) — a duo of sound improvisers operating at the intersection of analog synthesis, prepared sound and free electroacoustic expression;

M!sT — a DJ and producer associated with the Sobotek collective, who will perform an original musical setting for the Japanese silent film “Szalony Paź” (originally A Page of Madness, dir. Teinosuke Kinugasa, 1926), proposing a reinterpretation of the cinema classic in the spirit of audiovisual performance;

Oderfisch — a collective of sound performers from Opole, operating in the aesthetics of mask, noise and anonymous stage action; their performance will be the first contact with the Wrocław audience;

Shak — an artist balancing between extreme forms of guitar music (mathcore, djent) and the raw energy of schranz and hard techno, seeking intense sound experiences in his work;

Szczupac — a representative of the local experimental scene, an improviser operating a bass guitar processed by a layer of electronic effects.

Selected concerts will be enriched with visualizations by Ula Jagielnicka (aka Wczesna Jagielnicka) — a visual artist, designer and VJ from Wrocław, whose works operate on the border of digital art, light and rhythm of the image. The Electronic Avant-Garde Stage is being created with the support of Koleje Dolnośląskie and the publishing collective Ubocze Rec. The event fits into the broader context of activities promoting independent, experimental art and in-depth reflection on the contemporary soundscape.

“Farewell to the Family Plot is a sonic deconstruction of the concept of peripheral space – a kind of requiem for the landscape of the crevice, fixed in generational memory as a metaphor for rest, alienation and utopian lack of productivity. Uchylak, using means characteristic of glitch, techno and the trend sometimes referred to as shitwave (an untranslatable but significantly affective term), creates a sonic narrative that balances on the border between a private archive and an electroacoustic ritual of purification.

This is not an album in the classical sense. It is a document. An ephemeral installation. A sonic ready-made composed of distortions, broken loops, micro-samples of home sounds and system signals, which – as part of a quasi-academic act of recycling – are embedded in a discontinuous rhythmic structure, reminiscent of gardening rather than a linear composition.

Formally – the works from the album can be considered as a series of glitchy soundscapes that attempt to regain meaning in the era of great resignation. On the conceptual level, this is the last farewell to an impossible place: the plot as a topos of escape, now non-existent, buried under the rubble of memory and melting plastic.

Uchylak gives no answer. Uchylak leaves a trace in the mud. For a moment”

Wrocław, a non-obvious city, where different cultures have met for centuries. Wrocław, a city of meetings. In Gaiman’s book, people coming to the United States also brought their gods. And in the Polish – once German – Wrocław? Aren’t there minor spirits, demons and gnomes left here? Not those cute gnomes scattered around the city, who have long forgotten their orange provenance, but those nasty, dangerous and pissed off ones for not being remembered anymore. They hide in basements, sewers, forgotten wells, abandoned plots, waiting for a bit of satisfaction from frightening passers-by.

The abstract ethnic-like melodies played on the various wind instruments (flute, clarinet, Armenian folk pipe, zhalejka, koncovka, bawu…) are set on top of electronic soundscapes full of drones, mechanical rhythms, etheral resonances and wobbling synths. Everything is accompanied by the ocasional intrusion of the dog improvising along the woodwinds.

Stranger:

The year 3572 Earth is ruled by the new fungi overlords. Remnants of the forgotten cities of the once great civilization are inhabited by dying tribes spending their lives in spores-induced trance. Instead of speaking they are communicating by playing wild melodies on their bone pipes and straw clarinets accompanied by the electric-like humming of the world-wide mycelium.

Galaxy Of Flesh OST

In early 2023, music video and commercial director Keith Schofield posted a series of images allegedly from David Cronenberg’s forgotten film, “Galaxy Of Flesh”.

The production, which is a body horror set in a cosmic space, dates back to 1985. However, the picture was never made, and Schofield created the prepared frames using a program called Midjourney.

We accepted both the idea and its implementation with great enthusiasm (quite unlike Cronenberg’s ultras 🙂 ). What’s more, we decided to make this project real with our own music
.
This is how the soundtrack to “Galaxy Of Flesh” was created. Oscillating around old school electronics and synth melodies. Full of broken rhythms and cold sounds. Inspired by specific graphics from the Schofield collection.

Music for the film “His Master’s Voice” based on the novel by Stanisław Lem, probably from 1978. Filmed in Siberia by Piotr Demidow and his theater group, for years was considered as missing. It disappeared without trace with the mysterious disappearance also of Demidov himself. Discovered by accident, during renovation works in 2009 in the wall of a house in Norilsk, reconstructed and presented to the public almost 10 years later. To this day, it does not appear on any lists of the Polish writer’s adaptation. In a way, rightly so: ultimately, it has less to do with this, and more with the mixture of the broadly understood cosmogony of Siberian peoples and the cosmonautics of the time.

The project was created as part of the Year of Lem.

The selected works have not been found to this day.

A piece in honor of Olszówka Krzycka from Wrocław, which bravely drains water from the area, and remains in the shadow of its mother Ślęza, into which it flows near the Ordinary Citizen Bridge (unfortunately simply called the Racławice Bridge).
The stream was discovered by this Movement, as it often happens, on the occasion of its concreting and potential destruction. Hence the proposed, albeit non-pushy, subtitles:
